Part One: Makeup Storage | Before

Friday, October 31, 2014

Welcome to my little mini-series that is going to be on my blog within the next week or so! If you have been following me on Twitter or Tumblr, you would have known that I am currently working on building my very own custom made makeup drawer storage unit! I am happy to say that the process of making the storage unit it 99.9% complete and I'll be organizing in with the next few days or I have already depending when I decided to publish this post! Today I thought I would start this little series off by documenting and showing you how I currently have my makeup setup! I do want to also point out that you will be able to see my full collection in this post as well; I am in no way trying to brag about the makeup that I own! I have been collecting for about five year now and during two of those I was very ill and there were many reasons behind my illness and inside my head that I thought buying makeup to make myself look pretty, would cure! I will go in to a more in-depth post on how my makeup collection grew to be this large, so stay tuned for that post within this series!

To begin, I currently (or previously) store my makeup in a rainbow ten-drawer unit, which I picked up from my local hardware store but I've heard other girls have purchased theirs are Office Depot or Office Max. Mine was around $40, and this was a on sale price! I also wasn't able to purchase one in the box, this was the last one of the shelf and was actually the display model! I was in need of some functional storage that I was willing to buy this model, no discounts other than the sale price, and took it home as such. As you can imagine this meant that the unit was not constructed well, it is very tipsy and many of the screws for the drawer nobs were stripped and I have actually lost one or two because of them falling off! All in all, this storage was functional until my collection decided to really expand and I needed something better to display all my products so I would use them!

I will discuss the process of making my new storage unit in another post as well as show you the new storage set-up, but for right now I want to get into showing you how all of my products are laid out and setup, and really how nonfunctional this storage system is for me!

As you can see above, the storage isn't really that great for many reason but the main one that bothers me is that many of my product sit on top of one another or beside one another in a way that causes me not be able to view them all clearly. For example, when I'm looking for an eyeshadow Trio from Wet N Wild I spend many minutes browsing through them all until I find the one I'm looking for. This really causes me not to reach into my collection and instead just reach for my Naked 2 Palette or Monarch Palette that sit in a file organizer on top of the ten-drawer unit! I also tend to keep all of my felt tip eyeliners out of my collection, because again I find they get lost in all the other things in the drawer and those are one of those things that I really tend to use the most!

I hope you enjoyed seeing my previous makeup storage and a bit of my collection! Stay tuned to see my NEW makeup storage and collection overview as well as some other little posts including some diy projects that went along with creating my new storage and maybe even a little room tour!
