Out of My Comfort Zone: Warm Toned Makeup

Thursday, May 26, 2016

About a month ago, the beautiful and talented Jodi from Up The Rollercoaster and I got chatting about warm-toned versus cool-toned makeup looks. We quickly discovered that I don't like warm-toned products and makeup looks on myself and that she doesn't prefer cool-toned looks on herself. This got us thinking that it would be fun to challenge ourselves and step outside of our comfort zones. And that ladies and gentlemen this is why today I'm sharing this post with you and she is sharing hers!

So before we jump into this makeup look, I want to make sure that everyone knows about cool and warm toned products because I know many people reading this post are brand NEW to the makeup and beauty world. Here is a breakdown:

" If you take a look at the underside of your wrist and look at your veins and they appear more blue you have a cooler undertone. Cool colors consist of blue, pink, red and taupe. "
" If you take a look a the underside of your wrist and look at your veins and they appear more green than you have a warmer undertone. Warm colors consist of yellow, green, orange and gold. "

So as you can probably tell my challenge was to play around with warm tones on my skin and really push myself outside of my comfort zone. Let's start off with my flawless face base, which for some reason I was completely loving this day. Since I have a back stock of new products to try I did use the MAC Strobe Cream and Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Gleam, along with a few other new goodies. I also stuck to some of my favorite products which you are all probably getting tired of hearing about. Here is a full list of what I use for face products:
  • MAC Strobe Cream
  • Makeup Forever HD High Definition Primer
  • Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in Fair
  • Covergirl Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation in 905
  • ELF Tone Correcting Powder*
  • NYX Powder Blush in Taupe - used as a contour shade
  • City Color Cosmetics Matte Blush in Sweet Pea
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Gleam - Crush Pearl

Obviously, the eyes were the main focal point to this look and the place that I used the most warm-toned products. Eyeshadow is something that I'm really not that fearful of. I will throw a bright neon yellow on my eye if I think it's going to look good. But when it comes to warm tones I just tend to stay away from them and grab my trusty taupes and purples. For today's eye though I dug deep and again used a mixture of new and old products to really get the effect I wanted. Today's eye products consisted of:
  • Milani Eyeshadow Base
  • LA Colors Jumbo Eye Pencil in Seashells - used as a cream base
  • Makeup Forever Artist Shadow in S748 - used as a transition and crease shade
  • Essence All About Vintage* - combination of shades were used in my outer v
  • Joe Fresh Single in Black - used to deepen the look and under the lower lashline
  • Essence Smokey 2 in 1 Kohl Liner*
  • Clinique High Impact Mascara - used on my upper lashes
  • Lancome Hypnose Star* - used on my lower lashes
  • Essence Make Me Brow in Blondy Brows*
  • Essence Eyebrow Designer in Blonde*
And then, of course, the lips. Looking back on this look I really wish I would have used a warm-toned lipstick in place of the one I did but because warm-tones aren't my thing I wanted to bring a cool element back into the makeup. I decided to use the Essence Sheer & Shine Lipsticks in Glamour Queen and Frosted*. You would have seen me talk about these lipsticks in my last post, so I suggest you head there for all the facts!

So there you have it, the out of my comfort zone makeup look that I might have fallen in love with. I'm still playing around with warm toned shades and I'm seriously loving how some of the combinations have been turning out. I've been trying to focus more on face products and lip products while still using the eyes as my main focus. Maybe in the future, I'll post more fabulous warm-toned look if that's what you want to see.

Also, DON'T forget to check out Jodi's post where she is sharing a beautiful cool-toned makeup look today and talking all about how she went about creating her look. While both of us jumped outside of our comfort zones I think we both were able to create beautiful looks and really focus on other products that we neglect in our collection!

Are you a girl who likes warm tones or cool tones?
Why do you like one over the other?

  1. I'm the opposite and I prefer warm tones. But I'm trying to wear more cool tones now!

    1. I've found A LOT of people love the warm-tones. I guess just for my fair skin and cool undertone I like cool-tones better. However, warm-tones are growing on me as I've been using them more since this look!
