What's the hype about the ELF Studio Brushes?

Saturday, May 9, 2015

If you've been in the beauty community for more than a minute I'm sure you've heard or seen of the brand ELF Cosmetics which stands for Eyes Lips Face. You've probably also heard that ELF sells a wide variety of super affordable, high quality products ranging from blushes to eyeshadow's to lipsticks to brushes and so much more. There has been this continuous hype when it comes to the $1 and $3 makeup brushes that ELF Cosmetics offers. Today I thought I would also join that bandwagon and really break it down and explain to you just why I think the $3 Studio Line Brushes are absolute must haves in any girls (or guys) collection.

ELF Cosmetics Studio Brushes

I currently own 10 of the amazing Studio Line Brushes and use many of them on a regular, everyday basis. I do want to make a little point that ELF continuously has sales ranging from 30% off to 50% off and Buy One, Get One and so much more. I didn't purchase ANY of these brushes for their $3 price tag, instead I waited for a 50% of sale and got them for $1.50 - which makes them an even better deal for the quality you are getting. Another great thing about these brushes is they are Synthetic, which mean's they work great for both powder and cream products for all areas of the face. This also means that these brushes are cruelty free which is another great bonus considering how cheap they are. (Did you know ELF is a completely cruelty free brand!)

The ELF Studio Line Brushes currently have a wide range of 28 brushes in there line-up, ranging from $3 to $10 depending on which brush you are interested in. All the brushes that I currently have fall into the $3 range, however they have recently brought out some contouring brushes that will set you back $6 and some kabuki style brushes that will set you back $10. Personally, I'm a huge fan of all the $3 brushes that I have purchased and each one of them is soft, packed together nicely and washes well without shedding. I will tell you that after continuous use the ferrule's can let go and the tops do fall off the wooden handles. Honestly, some hot glue fixed this right up and I continued to use the brushes that did that (mind you only 2 of my Studio Brushes have ever done that). Personally, I'm lusting after the new $6 brushes, but again I'm patiently waiting for a nice big sale to be able to purchase them half price. As for the $10 brushes, I wouldn't personally go out and purchase those. I don't think the quality of the Studio Line Brushes is worth the $10 or even $6 price tag, but I would certainly continue to pay the $3 price tag.

Overall if you are a beginner, I think these ELF Brushes were made just for your collection. I think there is a wide range of both face and eye brushes that can be used for different purposes. For example, my Blush Brush I like to use for setting powder under my eyes, although it wasn't intended or named for that purpose it works both ways. I think these brushes are extremely versatile and obviously a great price point. There soft, don't shed, cheap, workable and the bristles are really high quality. They have no trouble picking up wet or dry product or cream or powder products either. However, there is a flip side to my thinking. If you are a Makeup Artist I would not invest in ELF Studio Line Brushes. While they are great quality they will not last the expected time period of other higher end brushes. I can personally get 8 - 12 months of use of these before the top falls off and before I really start to notice the wear. If you are using these brushes on clients after clients after clients you will notice this wear faster and you will have to repurchase more and more, which in the end you've spend the same amount of money as you would have spent on the high-end version.
I hope that gives you a bit more information on the ELF Studio Line Brushes, I know I didn't go into specific details about each brushes but if there is a brush that stands out to you that you want to see a full review or demo on please let me know and I would be happy to do that. I know picking brushes can sometimes seem like an easy task but I think for all makeup enthusiasts you really want brushes that are going to last. I hope that I made your brush buying decision a little bit easier today.

    1. I agree, the face brushes just are amazing in this collection and many of the eye brushes I tend to use as face brushes because they aren't made small enough for my eye shape. But for the price I can't complain!
