Project Pan Update #2 // Finish 20 by July 1st

Tuesday, June 7, 2016

Back at the beginning of April, I shared an introductory post for my Project 20 Pan, in that post, I outlined that I wanted to use up 20 beauty products before July 1st. This was a huge challenge and something I was ready to take on. In May, I shared my very first update post and the progress I had made. While some products were moving along nicely, others were at a stand still, some were thrown away and some I just hated.

Now that we're into June, it's time to share my second update and where I am with each of my products and if I'm still continuing to enjoy them. Since I only have a month left in this challenge  I'm feeling pretty bummed that I won't be able to finish all the products I wanted to. However, I'm happy that I took this challenge and I'm excited to do smaller challenges in the future to help rotate and use my rather large makeup collection.

So without nonsense rambling, here are my updates:

L'OReal Hydra-Total 5 Micellar Water*
200 ml retails for $8.47
This product is the one that has seen the most progress and I actually only have one or two uses left of this and it's going to be gone tonight or tomorrow night! This has been a fantastic product and one I'm really happy I got to try and use. This absolutely something I would purchase in the future.

L'OReal Hydra-Total 5 Toner*
200ml retails for $8.47
This product is going to be never-ending and I hate it! This is a really great skincare product and a really effective toner. However, I use this on two cotton round and I'm getting nowhere. Does anyone have any ideas how I can use this product some more?

L'OReal Hydra-Total 5 Moisturizer*
50ml retails for $12.97
And this moisturizer is just as amazing as the two other products in this line. However, as I've been using this I have found out that the more I use the more effective this moisturizer is. But I have to also be careful not to overuse the product because when I wake up in the morning my face can feel really sticky.

Makeup Forever HD High Definition Primer
30ml but is discontinued
I haven't stopped using this primer and I've been mixing it with both my Benefit POREfessional and the MAC Strobe Cream. This again is a never ending product and something I feel like I'll be using up all Summer long. I do really want to get through this and move on to other primers since I can work through those pretty quickly.

ELF Makeup Mist & Set
60 ml and retails for $3
I haven't used this at all. Shame. One of the things I just tend to forget when I'm doing my makeup is my setting spray. Even though I leave this setting right out on my desk and always near me. I still seem to forget. In this last month, I'm really going to push myself to make sure I'm reaching for this and using it up.

Covergirl Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation in 905 & 910
30 ml retails for $12.97
For both of the foundations in this challenge, I decided to take 910 and mix what was left into the 905 shade. Since Summer is here and I already have a tan I don't mind mixing these two shades anymore and it helps to better match my skin tone. This only means that I have to use the product up this Summer and into Fall to ensure it continues to match me.

Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Light
0.2 oz retails for $10.96
Garage! I've used this a handful of times since the previous update and nothing seems to work. This product is extremely dry and heavy. I've tried mixing it with other concealers, foundations and even moisturizers and nothing helps. I'm just done trying and this is so old at this point it's time to go!

NYX Powder Blush in Taupe
0.14 oz and is discontinued
I have to admit that quite a few times this month I reached for the NEW formula of the Taupe Blush. But I'm trying to get back into the old one because I really love it and I want to use it up. As I've said in other posts, this doesn't perform the best anymore because of its age so I'm just wanting to work through it until I can't anymore.

Joe Fresh Eye Shadow in Smoke
0.08 oz and is discontinued
After doing my Out of my Comfort Zone Challenge with Jodi I really haven't reached for this shadow. Instead, I've been experimenting with other warm tones shades and things that I haven't given enough love. I still really like this shadow, I'm just enjoying other things and other looks more right now that don't require this type of shade.

Benefit POREfessional Face Primer*
0.10 oz // Full-size is 0.75 oz and retails for $39
Drumroll please.....I used this product up! In one of my previous updates, I said that I really didn't like this product when used with my Covergirl Foundation or my holy grail, L'OReal Cushion Foundation. So I decided to use this product up and pull out another foundation in my collection. I reached for the Rimmel Long Lasting 25hr Foundation and the two products worked perfectly together. I'm going to grab for the other mini-sample of the Benefit POREfessional and see if I can also use that one up.

Milani Eyeshadow Primer & Hard Candy Eyeshadow Primer
0.30 oz retails for $10 (ish) // 0.17 oz // Full-size is  oz and retails for $5.96
These products have gotten some pretty steady use (with the exception of one day) and I've been rotating them frequently. The progress is hard to see on them because of this but I do feel like there is less product in the tubes and I'm well on my way to using them up. I do find the Milani Primer is getting a little bit sticky and the Hard Candy is getting watery. So I'm pushing hard to use these before they go bad.

LA Color Jumbo Eye Pencil in Seashells
0.13 oz retails for $3 (ish)
This is also another product that I've been using steady and haven't seen a crazy amount of progress on. As I've used this, I have found that the less product I use the longer my eyeshadow stays on and doesn't smear around. This is a pretty creamy product so that isn't a surprise. I'm going to use this and play around with using this in the lower waterline to see if I can move the progress along.

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in Magic (LE)
0.05 oz // Full-size is 0.27 and retails for $23
I've finally used this product more and I'm still on the fence about it. I love it over the top of lipsticks because it doesn't make it feel as sticky. However, I still find it heavy on the lips and that does feel quite uncomfortable. I have other glosses that I'm still reaching for!

Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Love at First Sight
0.07 oz // Full-size is 0.2 oz and retails for $21
I think I'm giving up on this product. Compared to the Tarte Lipgloss this one is a damn mess. It's so sticky that I don't even like swatching it to see the color, let alone put it on my lips. While I do love the shade, sparkle and gloss that it gives, the formula is just so uncomfortable that I don't want to use this.

So there you have it! I have 15 products left, including the Maybelline Concealer and Clinique Gloss that are going in the trash as soon as I finish writing this post. I'm pleased with my progress and that I'm really finding products that are going bad in my collection or that don't work for my skin type anymore. I'm excited to finish out this last month, even though I know I won't finish much more. But I'm hoping to continue these products even after July 1st to see what more I can use up!

What do you think of my progress?

Have you been enjoying my Project Pan Challenge?

  1. I have so much trouble trying to use up my products as well! Isn't it funny how us bloggers have so much trouble finishing up products? =P

I always forget to use setting spray as well. Boo that the Maybelline age rewind didn't work well for you, I haven't tried it before but heard great reviews on it. Sticky and messy lipglosses are the worst!

    1. It's so ironic! We purchase products to finish them but then never do. This Project Pan has really helped me and in the future I plan to do monthly products with one or two products to hopefully continue to see the progress.

Have you figured out any ways to NOT forget setting sprays?

And the first tube of the Maybelline Age Rewind was lovely for me and this was is just plain bad. I think it was due to my skin changing but it was disappointing!
