Part Two: Makeup Storage | After!

Monday, November 3, 2014

If you did not see my previous makeup collection post make sure you check it out here!

After much time, effort and dedication to my brand new makeup storage unit I am happy to say that it has made its way into my room and is completely full with all of my makeup and other things! I am beyond excited with how the drawer system turned out and can't wait to play around some more with organizing it and making things work perfectly for me! For any of those who are wondering about the overall unit, it is a custom made design that both my dad and I designed! The full unit does contain six drawers, however only four of those are for makeup storage the other two are for stationary items and for some hair care items and random things. Take into consideration that this storage and the drawer length is triple what my old storage was! Overall the unit cost about $350 dollars to make; which I am sure many of you are thinking is crazy but factoring in this including everything: wood products, screws, nails, wheels, drawer handles and paint! It would have basically been the same cost if I would have ordered and had an Alex Nine-Drawer delivered to my door!

With that being said the drawer system is mainly made out of a cabinet grad pine and plywood material, depending on which part of the drawer unit we're talking about. All the drawers and outer frame of the drawer unit is made with pine, whereas the drawer bottoms and backing of the unit are made out of plywood! For the actual organizers inside most of those came from my old storage however I did got out and purchase about $20 dollars worth of organizers for the drawer unit, since there is actually a shelf on the bottom of the unit - this stores pens, markets and stationary utensils! All in all this process was something that took us about a month to complete and was something that both my dad and I worked very hard on to make it as perfect as possible! Unfortunately there are areas that we messed up on and this drawer unit is not something so perfect that its factory made! This is something I really wanted done for my current room and to be able to transport with me! It was made with lots of love and sweat and I am so appreciative of the work that my dad put into making this drawer unit for me! (If you are wondering, my father is a carpenter by trade and did work in the field for 30+ years)!

Now lets move on to showing you how I have all of my product stored:
In the first drawer of the unit in which I store makeup I tried to store all of my face products. This includes (from right to left) foundations, concealers, powders (loose and pressed), foundation primers, BB creams, cream blushes and powder blushes, bronzers and highlighters. Most of the items are divided into there appropriate sections expect my cream blushes and powder blushes are all together in one bin! I also tried to organize most things by brand, for instance all of my ELF Studio Blushes are located in the some area and then from front to back by the ones I use the most to the ones I use the least.
In my second drawer of makeup I store all of my eyeshadow products. From right to left: I mainly like to store my single eyeshadows which you can see in the ice tube trays, I than have some larger single shadows sitting next to that because they don't fit in ice cube trays. I then have some quads and trios and then into my cream eyeshadows along with some larger eyeshadow palettes! I really tried to get all of my main eye products in this drawer so that they weren't all separated in my storage.
In the third drawer of my makeup storage, from right to left, I did have to put some eyeliners and eyebrow products down here because they did not fit into my other drawer. I then separated my Revlon Jumbo Pencils and other jumbo pencil's because I tend to want to reach for my Revlon ones more.  I then have all of my LA Girl Lip Paints and then all of my lipsticks, which do stand up because I made a DIY lipstick organizer. And then I have some lipglosses and some more lipsticks. I also have some extra lipglosses in the back (which you can't see) that I really don't use that much! Again most of these products are organized by brand, just to make things easier to get at for me.
In my very last drawer of my makeup storage, from right to left, I just keep many of my lip balms that I tend to use a lot. Then I have some more liquid type lipsticks type of products and then some random glosses. Next to that I have some sample, then some random products. And finally on the very left I keep all of my extra products, many of them are mascaras but I do have some foundations, concealers and other random things!

I really hoped you all enjoyed seeing my updated and new makeup storage! I have been really excited to change things up in my room and make my space more functional and I am really happy with the way the drawer unit came out! I also have revamped my lighting system on my vanity area and that will also be a little post in this mini-series so be sure to stay tuned to see that later on this week! If there is anything you would like to see a more in-depth post about, or swatches or anything please let me know as I'd love to do it for you! 1. I'm looking for the perfect storage for everyday makeup, and especially eyeliners and mascaras because I reach for them so darn much! Miji drawers seem great but the shipping to Canada is a pain and expensive!
